John Clifford Awbrey, 90, of Orlando, Fla., went home
to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018. John was born in Burlington, Iowa, on Jan. 15, 1928.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Caroline Awbrey; and his brother, Richard Awbrey.
John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nylene Awbrey. He also is survived by three sons, Greg Awbrey (Beth) of Ijamsville, Md., Dr. Brian Awbrey (Cynthia) of Lexington, Mass., and Mark Awbrey (Christine) of Farmington, Minn.; and one daughter, Lisa Ralph (Douglas) of Orlando. John had nine grandchildren, Michael, Tiffany, Matthew, Nathan, Joshua, Jaymes, Julia, Claire and Louis; including four loving great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Jackson, Sidney and Harrison.
John was a loving father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.
John attended Coe College and the University of Iowa. He served as a medic with the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a buyer for Medical Arts Surgical Supply Co. after 36 years. John was a member of the American Legion Post 8 of Winter Haven, Fla., and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lake Alfred, Fla.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services for John will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. John will be laid to rest at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
