Johanna T. Sleichter, 89, of Coralville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, at Windmill Manor in Coral-ville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Iowa City, with the Very Rev. Rudy Juarez offici-ating. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with a rosary at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
Johanna was born July 17, 1926, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Timothy and Mary (McKevitt) Colbert. She lived in Riverside until 1988, when she moved to Iowa City. Johanna was united in marriage to Carroll Sleichter on Feb. 1, 1949. He preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 2005. She worked for the University of Iowa for 22 years, retiring in 1988.
Johanna was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Johanna loved to read, play cards, and bake and share recipes with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. Some of the most memorable trips were to England, Ireland, Alaska and Hawaii.
Johanna is survived by her seven children, Mary (Lee) Roberts of North Liberty, Ann (Donald) Clawson of O'Fallon, Mo., Beverly (Terry) Morano of Walled Lake, Mich., Jim Sleichter of Iowa City, Nick (Peg) Sleichter of Fairfax Station, Va., Marti (Ron) Stumpf of Riverside and George Sleichter of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Helen Slaughter of Iowa City and Dorothy Watkinson of Riverside; one brother, Robert Colbert of Riverside; two sisters-in-law, Edith Moorhead of Marion and Dora Kallaus of Kalona; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Johanna was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Richard and Timothy Colbert; and one grandchild, Elena Sleichter.
