JOHANN "JOHN" ANTON OTT
Cedar Rapids
Johann "John" Anton Ott passed away Feb. 9, 2019, in Layton, Utah. He was born May 11, 1940, to Johann Anton Ott and Rosemarie Rimpl in Reischdorf, Czechoslovakia. He attended Baumholder American High School in Baumholder, Germany. He graduated from the University of Michigan, Dearborn campus. He married Gail Louise Straney on Nov. 26, 1964, in Cedar Rapids. He was an active member of the Catholic church. He initiated usher service at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Layton. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. John enjoyed doing leatherwork, DIY, volunteering at national parks, the Ogden Depot Museum, Golden Spike National Historic Site, being an intermittent park ranger, traveling, hunting, fishing and building clocks.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; son, Joseph; daughter, Julie (Mike); beloved grandson, Garrett Ott; sister, Carmen Andersson (Norm); and six well-loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred J. and Rosemarie Jones. A special thanks to Dr. Dwight Rigby, Dr. Glenn Biddulph and the staff at the CVTU at McKay Dee Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at St. Rose of Lima, 210 Chapel St., Layton, Utah. Family and friends may gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers Mortuary, 250 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton. A vigil with rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Schulz Cemetery in Ashton, Idaho, at a later date.
