Johann Irene Rigel, 76, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at West Ridge Care Center. Celebration of Life gathering will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Private family inurnment will be in Anderson Cemetery, Swisher.
Johann was born Feb. 3, 1947, in Iowa City, the daughter of Oral and Irene (Wagner) Fowler. She graduated from Iowa City High School, Class of 1965. Johann was united in marriage to Leonard Rigel on Dec. 26, 1969, in Cedar Rapids. She worked for many years at JCPenney. Johann enjoyed crafting, crocheting, drawing, going to bingo, gardening, being called to jury duty, tending to her farm animals, especially the goats, and most of all spending time with her family.
Johann is survived by her children, Rick (Jennifer) Rigel and Ronda Cook (Bernie Johnson) and Mike (Alisha) Rigel; five grandchildren, Dale, Doug, Zach, Zander, Mason; sister, Bonnie Hanson; brother-in-law, Ernest (Carol) Rigel; sister-in-law, Mary Fowler; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard, brother Steve Fowler, and brother-in-law Max Hanson.
