Jody Kay (Rhodes) Flattery, 38, of Lisbon, formerly of Albia, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, her home after a long battle with illness.
She was born Saturday, May 22, 1976, to Sharon
Kurimski and Jim Rhodes in Albia, Iowa. Jody graduated from Albia High School in 1994. She worked as a CNA for several years. She was very passionate about her profession and had great empathy for her patients.
Jody's greatest loves were her two children, Natasha and C.J. She was very proud of them. They brought her great joy and happiness.
Jody had a variety of interests that included reading, music, baseball, and the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team in particular.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, C.J. and Lucky Stocker and Charles and Elma Rhodes; and several aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Natasha Stewart; son, Christopher Joseph "C.J." Flattery; husband, Brian Flattery; mother, Sharon Kurimski; father, Jim (Denise) Rhodes; brother, Jon (Esther Zavacki) Rhodes; sister, Julie (Tim Carter) Freeman; brother, Jimmie (Amy Pottorff) Rhodes; sister, Jessica Rhodes; and a special friend, Travis Doudney.
Jody touched the lives of many. Her bright smile and cheerful nature brought smiles to everyone she met. She never knew a stranger. Jody always made the best of every situation with a positive attitude even in the face of challenge.
She will be greatly missed by many people.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S., officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, Monroe County. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jody's family present from 4 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society at 4 p.m., with a Christian wake service beginning at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Jody's two children, Natasha and C.J.
