Joanne Heick, 81, of Maquoketa, passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. A visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa after the luncheon.
Joanne Gayle Otten was born June 27, 1933, in Monticello, Iowa, to parents Gerd and Elizabeth (Cooper) Otten. She was united in marriage to Richard Tapken in November 1951. She was united in marriage on May 25, 1974, to Charles Heick in Rock Island, Ill.
In her earlier years, Joanne worked for the telephone company, WMT Radio, Anamosa Journal Town Crier, Albaugh Photography, St. Luke's Hospital and helped her husband farm.
She was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in DeWitt. She enjoyed dancing, driving tractors, gardening and canning, bird watching and camping. She loved cooking and baking and was known for her homemade fudge.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Charles; her children, Doug (Sharon) Tapken, Spokane, Wash., David (Cathy) Tapken, Medical Lake, Wash., and Julie (David) Beuthien, DeWitt; her stepson, Scott (Vicki) Heick, Lowden; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Nancy (Roger) Digmann, Monticello; and her brother, Wilbur (Chantal) Otten, Vancouver, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Tapken; and an infant sister.
Memorials are preferred.
