Joanne Franck, 67, of Independence, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at the
Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.
Joanne was born Sept. 11, 1946, in Independence,
Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Mary (Toomey) Gritton. She was a 1964 graduate of Jefferson High School, Independence. She was united in marriage to Richard Franck on Sept. 2, 1967, at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence. Joanne worked for many years as a secretary at the Mental Health Institute in Independence. She loved her family deeply, they were her life.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, Independence; four daughters, Stephanie (Lon) Bright, Anamosa, Samantha (Chad) Rezac, Tipton, Heidi (Steve) Jackman, Johnston, and Elizabeth (Kelly) Thompson, Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren; her mother, Mary Gritton, Independence; and a sister, Jeanne Gritton, Central City.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Gritton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence.
