JOANNE DVORAK Cedar Rapids Joanne Dvorak, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Steve Garner. A rosary service will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her sons, David (Janice) Dvorak and Dennis (Colleen) Dvorak; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Boddiker. Joanne Marie Bruce was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Cedar Rapids to Basil and Ella (Dalton) Bruce. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School in the spring of 1949, then on Aug. 27, 1949, she married Lester W. Dvorak in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed playing bingo, sometimes every day; helping Lester with his garden; and serving food at schools for the hot lunch program. She spent most of her time raising two boys and could cook anything; everyone loved her homestyle meals. After the boys had grown, she worked for the Linn County Treasurer's office until her retirement. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; and sister, Doris Tucker.
