Joanna S. King, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Deb Black will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy (Nancy Rawson) and David (DeAnn), both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Thad (Jackie), Toby (Amy), Josh (Jennifer), Anna (Josh) Brown, Joalene Grissel, Nate (Meeka) and Nick (Jenn); and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; a brother, Thomas Scherrebeck; and a sister, Mary Kruse.
Joanna was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Walter and Anna Fieseler Scherrebeck. She married William L. King on April 29, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. William passed away in 2000.
Joanna was a homemaker and a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church and the Golden Links. During World War II, she worked at the telephone company. Her Czech heritage was a source of pride.
Joanna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and especially loved rocking the family babies.
Joannie will be greatly missed and her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy or Salem United Methodist Church in Joanna's name.
