Joann Susan Detert, 88, of Anamosa, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with Bob Brus presiding. Burial will be in Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Brosh Chapel.
Joann was born Sept. 28, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William and Rachal (Izer) Pepin. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Wilson High School at the age of 17. Joann was united in marriage to Norbert Detert on Jan. 20, 1951, at John Hus Methodist Church. She worked in her earlier years at Iowa Manufacturing, Linn Photo and various local restaurants. Later she worked at Sykora's and Hy-Vee bakery, where she baked and decorated cakes. She enjoyed collecting frogs, making and painting lawn ornaments, ceramics, sewing, baking and especially spending time with her family. Joann was a longtime member of Moose Lodge 307 in Cedar Rapids.
Joann is survived by her children, Ned (Mary Sue), Gary (Teresa) and Steven (Terri), all of Cedar Rapids, Duane of Anamosa and Kevin Detert (Beth) of Toddville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Vernon Detert of North Liberty; and sister-in-law, Wilma Logan of California, as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Norbert, who died on Aug. 7, 2001.
