Joann Remington, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Family visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private family services will be held. All invited guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Joann, under "photos and videos or media," starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27.
Joann was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of William and Irene (Polkow) Bahls. She graduated from Elkader High School. Joann married Dean Remington on July 28, 1956, in Elkader. She loved to tend to the flowers in her yard and enjoyed all the birds that would come to visit. Joann was an excellent cook, a whiz at puzzles and loved to fish. Above all, Joann was caring homemaker who loved her family very much.
She is survived by her children, Doug (Carol) Remington of Marion, Dan (Debra) Remington of Toddville, Pam (John) Hinrichs of Alburnett, Glen (Jamae) Remington of Marion, Rebecca (Dale) Forkner of Marion and Patty (Craig) Breja of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Ida Lou Jilek, Geraldine Slaybaugh and Donald (Patte) Bahl; sisters-in-law, Sharon Bahls and Elinor Remington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean, in 2010; great-grandson, John Hinrichs; siblings, Dolores Freeman, Dwayne Bahls, Harold Bahls, Lavon Downs and Jeanette Schmelzer; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
