JoAnn Merta, 81, of Marion, passed away Oct. 8, 2015 at Bickford Cottage in Marion. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, on Monday, Oct. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m.
JoAnn was born Aug. 11, 1934, in Anamosa, Iowa, to parents Eugene and Delores McCormick. She was a 1951 graduate of Springville High School. On Oct. 24, 1953, JoAnn married Eldon Merta in Cedar Rapids. JoAnn worked in data entry and retired from Firstar Bank in 1995.
She is survived by her children, David (Mona) Merta, Mark (Kandi) Merta and Debra Merta-David; grandchildren, Matthew Merta, Ashley Merta, Jordan David, Kinsey Merta, Cayson Merta, Branden Skorcz, Haydn Skorcz and Alicia Misenar; sister, Evelyn Cheesbrough; special cousin, Clorene Kray; and half brothers, Gary Mullen and Steven Page.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Leola Boren; and brother, Laverne McCormick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy research.
