Ely
JoAnn (Ewert) Pudil Mann, 76, of Ely, formerly of Solon, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha from complications of colon cancer.
JoAnn was born on March 21, 1942, in Goessel, Kan., to Edwin and Hilda (Rempel) Ewert. She graduated from Hillsboro High School (Hillsboro, Kan.), pursued her nursing degree in Hutchinson, Kan., and later graduated from Coe College (Cedar Rapids) with her BSN. JoAnn worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and at Kirkwood Community College. She later worked as a real estate agent, first as a sales associate at Lakeland Properties in Solon, and then as a broker for Byers & Happel in Iowa City. JoAnn was an avid reader, seamstress and quilter, and she enjoyed time spent growing beautiful flowers and gardening. She was a loving and loyal mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and she will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her three daughters, Gretchen (David) Wetendorf of Ear Falls, Ontario, Valerie Pudil of Austin, Texas, and Corina (Mike) Olinger of Marion, Iowa; four grandchildren, Michael and Kate Wetendorf and Kyra and Jenna Merritt; stepgrandsons, Zack and Forrest Olinger; her sister, Carolyn (Lynn) Simpson of Raymore, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Ewert of Geneseo, Ill., and Elaine Ewert of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Steve Pudil of Swisher, Iowa; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Hilda; three brothers, Lowell, Ronney and Russell Ewert; husband, Duane "DJ" Mann; sister-in-law, Lynn Pudil; and ex-husband, Brian Pudil.
Please join JoAnn's family and friends as they gather to celebrate her life at the Swisher American Legion on Sunday, May 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. Casual attire is requested. A private family burial will take place at Anderson Cemetery in Swisher at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the family. Also, please consider performing a random act of kindness to honor the way that JoAnn always gave to others from her heart. Nothing would honor her life more, or make her smile bigger.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Hospice of Mercy for all of their kindness and assistance to JoAnn.
