Jo Ann Collins, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away July 24, 2022, at the Heritage Care Facility in Cedar Rapids.
JoAnn was born in Cedar Rapids Aug. 18, 1949. She lived most of her life in Marion or Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School. In later years she continued her education at Mount Mercy University.
JoAnn was a loyal friend and a compassionate
soul to all in her life. Her love for people and desire to give of herself
to improve someone else’s life or bring
sunshine to their day was evident in her career choices. JoAnn was a social worker with Department of Human Services, director of housing for Catherine McAuley Center, director of housing for Madge Phillips, and coordinator of Meals on Wheels for Horizon. She touched lives of people in all walks of life in concrete and meaningful ways. For the single mom, the lonely senior, or the woman who was struggling to
get back on track, she always had time to listen with her heart, give sound advice and celebrate successes.
JoAnn is survived by her stepdaughters, Sara Baldwin and Jenni Jayne.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Willa Mae Daniels Flickinger and Albert Ray Flickinger; and her second husband, Mark E. Jayne.
A celebration of JoAnn’s life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 220 40th St. NE, Cedar Rapids
