Joan Virginia Wade was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Holbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Caroline Sophia (Schwab) Crawford. She attended Catholic school in Holbrook and Parnell. On Jan. 6, 1951, Joan was united in marriage to Max E. Wade. To this union they were blessed with six children. They later divorced. Joan was a waitress and later worked at Shellar
Globe for many years. She enjoyed playing circle of words, fishing and spending time with her family. Joan died Sunday, June 30, 2019, at her home in North English at the age of 86 years.
She is survived by four children, Debbie Shipley of West Branch, Marsha (Dan) Vinson of Lena, Ill., and Mike Wade and Jeff (Cindy) Wade, all of North English; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great- great-grandchildren; and two sons-in-law, Larry Shipley of Hills and Terry Van Dee of North English.
She was preceded by her parents; two daughters, Roxine Van Dee and Jackie Eckert; two brothers, Charles and Tuffy Crawford; and six sisters, Deloris, Mary Ann, Jenny, Annette, Lucille and Shirley.
A Celebration of Life memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Powell Funeral Home in North English. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
