JOAN "JOANN" SIMPSON

Joan "JoAnn" Simpson, 83, of Lisbon, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Solon Retirement Village. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at First Federated Church, Lisbon, by Lay Minister Bob Brus and Pastor Jacob Bishop. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Burial: Lisbon Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Ricky (Cindy) Strait of Anamosa, Darla Simpson of Mount Vernon, Clint (Laurie) Simpson of Lisbon and Deb (David) Siggins of Lisbon; brother, Donald Stepanek of Marion; sister, Wandalene O'Connor of Springville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members.
Joan was born Dec. 17, 1932, in Cedar Bluffs, the daughter of Joseph and Marietta (Boxa) Stepanek. On Oct. 1, 1960, she married Rex Simpson in Rock Island, Ill. Joan worked in food service at Cornell College for over 40 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, bingo, doing crafts, cooking, baking and canning. Joan also enjoyed attending Community Bible Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex; grandson, Chad Strait; brothers-in-law, Oran "Buck" Ford and Joseph O'Connor; and sister-in-law, Beverly Stepanek.
