JOAN L. SILVER
Central City
Joan L. Silver, 85, of Central City, passed away
in her home on Thursday, July 12, 2018. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service held. A Celebration of Joan's Life with family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, in the Woodpecker Lodge, located at 1850 Woodpecker Hill, at Pinicon Ridge Park, Central City. A private burial will be at Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Joan was born June 8, 1933, to Glen and Marjorie (Ross) Nightingale. She lived her entire life in or near Central City. She was a 1951 graduate of Central City High School, marrying Ralph E. Silver in October that year. They spent their life together in a home they built near the Boy Scout Camp north of Waubeek. They raised four children there, Susan (Ed) Dolan of Central City, Steven (Linda) of Hiawatha, Sterling (Tammy) of Anamosa and Stephanie (Bill Hall) of Central City.
Joan was a stay-at-home mother until her children were in school. She worked at Central City school as a teacher's aide and bus driver for many years. Later, she worked for Transport America. She often said, "I've driven more miles backwards than you have forwards!" She was a great cook, and enjoyed sewing, quilting and making jewelry. She loved listening to Willie and George Strait and watching RFD-TV.
In addition to her four children and their spouses, Joan leaves behind four grandchildren, April (Kenny) Kreitner, Brenda Hayes (Brian Hamed), Judy (Jeff) Marshall and J.R. Hall (Kelsey Walton); and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ralph.
The family thanks the staff of Jones Regional Medical Center and UnityPoint Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
