Joan Carol Miller, 77, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Meth-Wick Manor/The Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall from 2 to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, June 11, followed by funeral services beginning at 4 p.m.,with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be at the Keystone Cemetery in Keystone. To honor Joan's wishes the casket will remain closed at all times.
A memorial fund has been established.
Joan was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Marengo to Grover and Helena (Hetz) Stumpff, and graduated from the Amana High School in 1954. On March 14, 1959, she was united in marriage to Warren K. Miller at St. John Lutheran Church in Marengo. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1989.
Before her retirement, Joan had been employed as a bookkeeper at Hawkbilt in Vinton, Tele-Connect and McCloud Communications.
A member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, bird watching and gardening. She especially enjoyed the company of her cat, "Tommy."
Joan is survived by her children, Sherri (Scott) Miller of Perry, Rick (Lisa) Miller of Newhall and Jon Miller of Vinton; her grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Bryan, Adam (Christi), Brittni, Eric (Darcy), Nick Miller, Noel (Jake) Hollister, Josef, Andrew, Jacob and Chris Miller; her great-grand-children, Bailey, Ayden, Brody, Charlotte and Hudson; her brother, Richard Stumpff of Vinton; and her sister, Druecilla Slager of Anamosa.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister; her sister, Jean Wiebold; an infant brother; and her brothers, Don and Roy Stumpff.
Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone is in charge of arrangements.
