Joan Christine Feller, 53, passed away Aug. 5, 2015, from injuries suffered in an accident July 31 at Hawkeye Downs. Per Joan's wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Mike Morgan. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Survivors include her husband, Kurt Feller of Marion; two sons, Zach and Jacob of Marion; her parents, Phil and Donna England of Arizona; siblings, Jeff, Julie and Joel England; and many loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jennifer.
Joan was born June 12, 1962, in Cedar Rapids, to Phillip and Donna (Carbee) England. She married her husband, Kurt, on June 7, 1986, in Van Horne, Iowa. Joan graduated from Benton Community High School in 1980 and received her B.A. and master's degrees in special education from the University of Iowa.
Joan began her teaching career at Center Point-Urbana Elementary, and later taught special education at Bowman Woods and Wilkins elementary schools.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion. Joan was a worship leader and also enjoyed her time spent sharing her music ministry at several churches in the Cedar Rapids area. She also took special pride in her jail ministries and recently expanded her ministry through her passion for racing.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Joan's memory.
