Joan A. Moravek of Mechanicsville, passed away, on July 14, 2023. Visitation: from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Iowa. Funeral: at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the funeral home followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tipton, Iowa.
Joan was born June 9, 1933, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, to Lela Barcus. She was adopted by Tony Stanton. Joan attended McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids. She married Russell Moravek on January 30, 1951, and was blessed with seven children.
Joan began working as one of the first five-woman EMTs in the Iowa Fireman’s Association, worked at the Linn Co. Care Facility, and for the Corp of Engineers at Coralville Lake as a custodian. She was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, Iowa.
She is survived by her children, Ronald (Julie) Moravek of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Mary Moravek of North Liberty, Iowa, Robert (Tammy Klinkkammer) Moravek of Mechanicsville, Iowa, and Denise (Richard) Konigsmark of Blairstown, Iowa; son-in-law, Doyle Pickering; and nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; husband; son, Steven Moravek; daughters, Sharon Pickering and Dianne Moravek; and her brother, George Barcus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her family.
