Jo Ann Mottet
Solon
With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of our amazing mom, Jo Ann Mottet, a strong and independent woman whose zest for life inspired everyone around her.
Family was everything to her and she was the proud matriarch of a remarkable family, blessed with 7 children (Diane (Mike) Broerman, Carol (Jim) Demmer, Sheryl (Frank) Roche, Mike (Nancy) Mottet, David (Tami) Mottet, Lynda (Steve) McLuen, Karen (Ken) Shields), 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren (and two more on the way). She delighted in every one of them, sharing stories, celebrating milestones and filling their lives with love. Her legacy is one of laughter, hard work, resilience, deep love and strong faith.
Known for her joyful spirit, Jo Ann could never resist the Chicken Dance, knitting blankets and stockings, making fabulous potato salad, slosh, and chicken in the pot and always finding time for any kind of puzzle. She would entertain the family with her accordion by playing polka music around the campfire. Her green thumb extended beyond flowers – she was a legendary weed-puller, never letting a stray dandelion win. When she wasn’t in the garden she could be found enjoying a round of golf, a good card game, or catching up on her soap operas.
She leaves behind a family, who will carry her lessons, her humor and traditions forward. We will miss her warm hugs, long chats and unbeatable strength, but her spirit will forever dance in our hearts.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Howard, her daughter, Diane, her grandson, Sean, her son-in-law, Jim and her sister, Sandi and brother, Dick.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 15, at St. John Catholic Church, 303 South St., Delhi, IA 52223. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at St. John Catholic Church with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery, in Solon. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family at this time. In lieu of flowers the family invites you to honor Jo Ann by making a donation to the Sunbird Lions Club in Chandler, AZ, or sharing a laugh, dancing a polka or tackling a puzzle with someone you love.
