JIMMIE WHITE
Cedar Rapids
Jimmie Gene White, 74, returned to his heavenly home on June 9, 2015, after a valiant battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Visitation will be at Cedar Memorial on Friday, June 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at River Life Ministries, 3801 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE. Pastor Joe Pledge will be officiating. Jimmie will be buried at Cedar Memorial immediately following funeral services.
Jimmie was born to the late Willie and Zelma White in Humboldt, Tenn., on May 22, 1941. He was a faithful believer in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support from an early age and attended school at Gibson in Tennessee.
Jimmie was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Frances M. White, on Aug. 13, 1962, in Medina, Tenn. Jimmie was the loving father of six children using patience, discipline and humility. He taught them to put their trust in God from the very beginning; he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the foundation of Christ.
Jimmie served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Redemption Missionary Baptist Church for 32 years and was a servant leader at heart. Currently he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at New Life COGIC. He was kind and soft-spoken and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small.
Jimmie worked many years in construction; also as a machinist at Hawkeye Rubber, as an equipment operator at St. Luke's Hospital and a maintenance worker at Burger King.
He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, District Missionary Frances; children, Jackie (Brent) of Iowa City, Marie (Wendell), Debra White, Joshua (Alison) White and Jimmie (Zorona), all of Cedar Rapids, and Marco of Macon, Mo.; brothers, James, Joe, Howard, David and Harvey; and sisters, Corrine, Lessie B. and Maggie. Jimmie leaves behind 24 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
