Jimmie "Jim" Skow, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa, after a battle with cancer.
Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. before the service, also at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Linwood Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at Moose Lodge 304 at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Jim was born Feb. 28, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Hilary and Delores (Voss) Skow. He was united in marriage to Mary Lee Stumpff; they later divorced. Jim married Sheila May Grabanski on July 15, 1983, in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a truck driver for LL Pelling Co. Jim was a member of Moose Lodge 304 and from 1950 to 1960 he was a member of the Black Rebels American Motorcycle Association. He was a former arm-wrestling champion. Jim loved country music, dancing, playing cards with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. His favorite color was blue. Jim enjoyed taking the long route.
Jim is survived by his children, Jeff Skow, Mike (Marcia) Skow and Kim (Joe) Burg; stepchildren, Scott (Sheri) Grabanski and Sherry Taylor; nine grandchildren, Tasia, Felicia (Justin), Justine (Nathan), Tiffany, Brock (Hannah), James, Hannah (Brandon), Hunter and Nikki; five great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jayna, Jaysen, Zeppelin and Mavrick; sister, Cynthia (Frank) Kraus; and many loving extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sheila in 2016; infant daughter, Kathy Jean Skow; brothers, Ronald and Gary Skow; and infant sister, Marlene Skow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
