Jimmie M. Dawson, 81, of Hiawatha, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, May 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Mick Schultz officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Jimmie Maynard Dawson was born Oct. 5, 1932, to Morris and Ella Mae Dawson in Delaware County, Iowa. He graduated from Manchester High School and attended Northwestern College for two years. Jimmie proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict from 1952-1956. He was united in marriage on Nov. 22, 1957, to Janet Thompson. She passed away in July 2011. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, David and Douglas (Deb) Dawson of Cedar Rapids; brothers, LeRoy (Karen) Dawson of Cedar Rapids and Glen (Doris) Dawson of Jesup; sister, Beulah (John) Lafferty of Sussex, Wis.; grandchildren, Justin Ramser, Aaron Keck, Brett Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Brittney Dawson and Calvin Dawson; three stepgrandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Diana Marie Dawson; and brother, Floyd Dawson.
A memorial fund has been established for the family.
