JIM ROLLINS
Marion
Jim Rollins went to be with the Lord on Oct. 26, 2015, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Celebration of Life: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Springville First United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor John Keizer.
Jim was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Newton, Iowa, to A.K. and Florence Rollins. He graduated from Newton High School and Northwest Missouri State. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Jim married his wife, Midge, in 1968, and together they had two children, a son, Paul; and a daughter, Kaye.
Jim worked at Rockwell Collins for 20 years until he retired in 1998. In addition to his time at Rockwell, Jim also became a home inspector, owning his own home inspection business for many years. In 2006, Jim followed a calling and became a certified lay pastor. His love of the Lord led him to this later in life career change and he became the lay pastor at Martelle Methodist Church in 2010, until he retired in August 2015. There was nothing he loved more than ministering to the people in his congregation. Jim was also a soccer coach in the Cedar Rapids/Marion areas for many years and also was a very talented woodworker.
Jim was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2011. His determination and fighting spirit, along with his faith and his family, helped him fight this disease for many years.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Midge of Marion; his son, Paul (Shelly) Rollins of Dyersville; his daughter, Kaye (Matt) Siders of Mount Vernon; his grandchildren, Maria (Craig) Schroeder, Tony (Alana) Rollins, Benjamin (Samantha) Rollins, Abby Rollins and Max and Brady Siders; two great- grandchildren, Greyson and Emma Schroeder; his mother-in-law, Arlene Gay; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim (Linda) Robinson-Gay; his sister-in-law, Rosalie Rollins; and his nephews, Donald (Dani) Robinson-Gay and Keith Rollins.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, A.K; his mother, Florence; and his brother Garry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Springville First United Methodist Church, Martelle Methodist Church or Hospice of Mercy in Jim's honor.
Jim's family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy, especially his nurse, Jenny, for his amazing care.
