Jesse Wright Jr., 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at his home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Cedar Rapids; children, David (Christina) Wright of Issaquah, Wash., Adam Wright of Cedar Rapids and Jessica (Derek) McDonough of Cedar Rapids; and one grandson, Grayson McDonough.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jesse was born on Feb. 9, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Jesse James and Hazel Fern (Matheny) Wright. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1965 and attended the University of Iowa College. Jesse severed in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Mary Ellen Carlson in New Hampton, in 1972.
Jesse was a loan officer for many years before moving to Cedar Rapids where he worked at The Gazette for several years and later at Cryovac until he retired in 2009. He was president of Cleveland Elementary PTA for several years, a member of the Cedar Rapids VFW Post No. 788 and also a member of the I Club. Jesse was an avid sports fan and enjoyed politics, but his greatest love of all was spending time with his family and especially his grandson, Grayson.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jesse's memory.
