Jesse Paul Duer, 39, formerly of West Branch and Iowa City, left his body on February 5, 2024, in the loving company of his family. Jesse will be remembered for his kind and generous heart and infectious laughter. He was a passionate musician, bike mechanic, and visual artist, and a talented chef, working in many restaurants in New York City, Iowa City, and Austin. He attended West Branch Friends Meeting and, more recently, Austin Friends Meeting.
His memory will be cherished by his father, David Duer (Iowa City); his brother and sister-in-law, Sierra Soleil and Tina Yin (Seattle, Wash.); his sister and nephews, Emma, Oscar, and Linus Duer (Roanoke, Va.); and his partner and soulmate, Lilia Leisle (Berlin, Germany). He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Duer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his name to Shelter House and the Iowa City Bike Library. A Celebration of Jesse’s Life will be held on June 8, 1:00-4:00 pm, at Old Brick in Iowa City.
