JERRY WHITMORE Cedar Rapids Jerry Hughes Whitmore passed away unexpectedly at his home in Cave Creek, Ariz., on July 9, 2015. Jerry was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Jerry attended Washington High School. He joined the Navy and was honorably discharged on his 21st birthday. He attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, graduating in four years with a bachelor of arts, summa cum laude. He then attended University of California-Berkeley on a grade-point scholarship and later received his master's of business administration from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught as an instructor at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. After earning a certified flight instructor license, he worked as a charter pilot for a period of time. In the late 80s, he moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., and created the very successful Whitmore Company P.C. as a certified public accountant. He became an active member of the Ducati Club and National Rifle Association. He also worked part-time on the staff of "Soldier of Fortune" and in 2001, instructed troops in El Salvador on urban warfare in preparation for their deployment to Afghanistan. While Jerry had no surviving relatives, he was loved by many friends.
