JERRY WESTEN

Jerry Dean Westen, 53, of Solon, passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Brosh Chapel in Solon,
located at 100 S. Cedar St. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Jerry was born March 12, 1961, in Washington, the son of Wilbur and Patricia (Nelson) Westen. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in Tiffin. Jerry joined the United States Army in 1980 and served 25 years, retiring in 2004. He was united in marriage to Korri Grimm on June 13, 1981, in Cedar Rapids. Jerry enjoyed golfing, camping and coaching many football teams, including Highland, Clear Creek and Solon high schools.
Family time was very important to Jerry, especially the time being Papa with the grandkids.
He was a longtime member of the American Legion.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Korri; two sons, Derek (Amanda) Westen and Travis (Jessica) Westen, both of Solon; four grandchildren, Drake, Elijah, Samantha and Alexis; a brother, Dan (Sue) Westen of Iowa City; and his mother, Patricia Edwards of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by father and his brother, Tim Westen.
