Jerry Thomas Keefe, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Mercy Hallmar. The public visitation has been canceled for Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. A private family Funeral Mass will held at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Tom was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Clinton, Iowa, to Daniel and Margaret (Carter) Keefe. He graduated from Newman High School in Sterling, Ill. He attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport and graduated from Regis University in Denver. Tom joined the U.S. Army in 1956. After his honorable discharge in 1958, Tom married the love of his life, Patricia Mary Schauff, in Dixon, Ill.; they were married for 63 years. He was an investigator for the United States Office of Personnel Management; he traveled the country throughout his career and was based out of the federal building in Cedar Rapids.
Tom was a man of great faith, his life centered around his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and traveling. He was an avid reader; history books were his favorite. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Keefe; dear children, Kathy (Troy) Bean of Missoula, Mont., Daniel (Katie) Keefe of Marion and Mary (Don) Chizek of Cedar Rapids; cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley), Kate and Pat Chizek, Emma (William) Golden and Brett Bean; and his sweet great-grandchildren, Graham, and Charlie Chizek.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mary Eleanor Murphy and Margaret Wahl; and grandson, Nicholas Keefe.
Tom’s family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Mercy Hallmar for the kindness and love they shared with our family, and to the nurses and staff at Cottage Grove Place. We are forever grateful.
Memorials may be directed to Soaring Eagle Charity and Heritage Living Center, Billings, Mont.; or Last Hope Animal Rescue, Cedar Rapids.
