Jerry Tichy, 79, of North Liberty, Iowa, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023. A visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 27, 2023, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1340 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Jerry was born June 19, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Jerry and Monica (Miller) Tichy. He graduated from Jefferson High School and went on to trade school to become a master electrician. Jerry owned and operated his own company for 35 years, Tichy Electric. He was an avid Jimmy Buffett Parrot Head and Iowa Hawkeyes fan who went to every bowl game that Kirk Ferentz coached. Jerry rode RAGBRAI for five years, and GAGBROT (Gene’s Annual Great Bike Ride on Trails) for 18 years. He enjoyed metal jewelry making, fishing trips to Canada, and attending his grandchildren’s events.
Survivors include his partner, Cheri Young; children, Darren Tichy and Courtney (Kurt) Packingham; grandchildren, Kohl, Dane, Garet, Logan, Tailyn, and Emma; and sisters, Joyce (Ernie) Ludvicek and Judi Bean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Gary Bean.
