Jerry M. Sparks, 77, of Marion, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services at 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
The Rev. Phil Jorgensen will officiate. Private family burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call
at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include his husband, Arlen Schmidt of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Judy Ahrens; and a dear friend, Dorothy Rowden, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Sara Weatherwax.
Jerry was born July 10, 1940, in Grinnell, the son of Hollis and Opal Earhart Sparks. He graduated from Grinnell High School and later from the Capri College of Cosmetology in Des Moines. Jerry was united in marriage to Arlen Schmidt on July 25, 2017, in Cedar Rapids. He was the owner and operator of his own salon, Jerry's, for over 40 years.
He was a member of the NHCA Jerry enjoyed collecting and selling antiques as well as his love for vintage cars. He was a wonderful and thoughtful man who touched many lives both professional and socially. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
