Jerry Grant Schenk, 73, of Tama, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, April 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama.
Jerry was born May 29, 1941, in Central City, Iowa, the son of Gerald Frederick and Charlotte Jean (Miles) Schenk. He graduated from Central City High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Jerry was married to Rhonda Rasmussen on Aug. 5, 1996, in Rapid City, S.D. He was employed by GTE, later known as Iowa Telecom, retiring in 2001 after 37 years of employment.
Jerry enjoyed horses throughout his lifetime. His interests also included riding his Harley, fishing, camping and watching the birds.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda of Tama; four children, Jamie (Grace) Schenk of Geneva, Fla., Amie (Steve) Rahn of Albion, Tamie Rogers of Cedar Rapids and Adam (Cheri) Foreman; five grandchildren, Layne Rahn, Connor Rahn, Tamisha Rogers, Jaycie Coffey and Shawna Foreman; his mother, Charlotte Schenk of Waubeek; two sisters, Janice Holscher of Lincoln, Neb., and Linda (Chuck) Vandevegte of Waubeek; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, Gerald Schenk, and grandson, Cody Coffey.
A memorial fund has been established.
