Jerry Lynn Hanna, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, at Country House Residence in Cedar Rapids.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Randy Kasch officiating. Military rites will follow the service at the church. Private family interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be
held from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Jerry was born July 21, 1934, in rural Lisbon, N.D., to Ruby and Lester Hanna. Jerry grew up on the family farm southwest of Lisbon, N.D. He graduated Lisbon High School, an F.F.A. member and graduated from North Dakota State School of Science with a degree in electricity and electronics.
Jerry married Marva Ann Wiemann April 15, 1955, at St. John Lutheran Church, Verona, N.D. They started their married life at Fargo, N.D. The army took the couple to Augusta, Georgia, and Monterey Bay, Calif. They settled in Vinton, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two children Ceeann and Brent Hanna.
Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1958-60 and Medic Corps 1960-61. He was honorably discharged from the United States Signal Corps in 1960 and Medic Corps in 1961.
Jerry took a position with Western Electric and later he worked in the toll department for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and Qwest, at Vinton and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for 40 years, and retired in 1994. He later worked for Palo Co-op Telephone Co. for 14 years.
Jerry was an active member of Bethlehem E. Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking, square dancing, traveling, R.V. camping, family genealogy and, mostly, spending time with family, friends and grandchildren from near and far.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Marva Ann Weimann Hanna; his daughter, Ceeann Craig Hanna Conklin, and her husband, Mark; and his son, Brent Kenneth Hanna, and his wife, Harley. He is also survived by his brothers, Willis Jesse Hanna, and his wife, Gail, Grant Sidney Hanna, and his wife, Linda; and his sister, Connie Ellen Hanna Evanger. Jerry's grandchildren, Brittany Chrystyne Hanna Dibanda, and her husband, Gildas, Jordan Ross Hanna, and his wife, Aleysha, Rachael Mae Hanna and Erik Lester Hanna. Jerry's great-grandchildren, Simone Joyce Dibanda, Gideon Gildas Dibanda, Killian Kenneth Robert Hanna and Lylianna Olivia Lynn Hanna.
