Jerry Lee Kennedy was born November 2, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Herb and Marilyn (Schutzman) Kennedy. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1979 where he excelled both academically and in Track and Field. Jerry and his teammates won the 4x200 meter State Championship in 1978 and the 4x100 meter State Championship in 1979. He continued to pursue his track and field career at the University of Northern Iowa where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Jerry married Mindy McCauley in 1985 and moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., where they started their life together. Jerry was a proud father of twin girls, Abigail and Jessica Kennedy. In 2006 the family moved to Kansas City, Mo. Jerry died on Monday, October 6, 2025, at his home in Kansas City, at the age of 64.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Kennedy of Cedar Rapids, his wife, Mindy Kennedy and daughters Abigail and Jessica Kennedy of Kansas City, sister Linda McMurrin and her husband Doug and son Hayden of Arlington, Texas, and nieces Samantha Kennedy and Nikki Kennedy of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded by his father Herb Kennedy and brother Mike Kennedy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 7 from 4-6 pm at the Ellis Golf Club Events Center at 1401 Zika Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, IA.
