Jerry Haag, 76, died Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at the U of I Medical Center following a fall.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Monday, September 15, 2025 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm Sunday evening, September 14, 2025, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with a Fire Fighter Honor Guard. Fr. Isaac Adjei Boadu and Deacon Ed Goldsmith will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers, please direct your memorial to the Monticello Fire Department or the Monticello Emergency Medical Team.
Surviving are his wife, Dianne, 2 children, Aimee (Scott) Price, Jason (Amy) Haag, 5 grandchildren, Ryan, Dane and Kade Price, Addison and Gable Haag, his siblings, Tom (Tina) Haag and Marla (Jerry) Hinrichs. He was preceded in death by his parents Roman and Kathryn Haag and his in-laws Donald and Earlene Buckner.
Jerry Gregory Haag was born October 16, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Roman and Kathryn (Connolly) Haag. Jerry graduated from the Sacred Heart Catholic School with the Class of 1966. He went into the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Jerry married Dianne Buckner on February 10, 1968, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Jerry was a firefighter for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, retiring in 1985 after a back injury. He continued his education at Kirkwood College earning an AA degree. He worked briefly at Smothers Equipment and then for the Monticello Community Schools in grounds and maintenance.
During his free time and retirement Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing with friends at various resorts in Canada, cruising and traveling, participating in events with card club friends, and volunteering for several years as a table worker at the State Wrestling Tournament. He also found great joy in attending activities for his children or grandchildren.
