Jerry Wayne Ganzevoort, 72, peacefully passed away on Oct. 20, 2017, at his daughter's home in St. Charles, Minn., surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer. Pastor John Syvertsen will officiate. Burial will be in Hospers Cemetery, Hospers, Iowa.
Jerry, son of Cyril and Marie (Mathis) Ganzevoort, was born April 26, 1945, in Greenville, Ky. He graduated from Sioux Valley Community Schools, lettering in basketball and track. (He broke the track record for the mile.) Jerry entered the U.S. Army in 1965. After basic training, he served two tours in Vietnam. He re-enlisted and was assigned to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, Korea, Fort Carson, Colo., and Fort Riley, Kan. He served for over 10 years in the military until his honorable discharge in 1975. In 1974, he married Pam Smith, and together they had three children. Jerry worked at IE in Spirt Lake. When Jerry divorced in 1982, he relocated to Cedar Rapids and was a warehouse keeper at Duane Arnold Nuclear Power Plant until his retirement.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry; and sister, Vivian.
Left to cherish his memory are his ex-wife/friend, Pat Miller of St. Charles, Minn.; daughter, Christina (Tony) of Leadville, Colo.; son, Jeremy (Shannen) of Washington, Ill.; daughter, Cassie (Ben) of St. Charles; grandchildren, Kylie, Gabriel, Ashley, Isaiah, Samantha, Alexia, Augustine, Christian, Isabella, Julian, Marcello and Lillianna; brothers, Dennis (Doris) of Ruthven, Iowa, and David (Kelly) of Spencer; sisters, Mona (Rocky) of Spencer, Bev (Dale) of Spencer and Pat (Lawrence) of Portland, Tenn.; and many special relatives and friends.
