Jerry Lee Buol, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Burial: 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Deborah; three daughters, Danette (Brian) Lemkee of San Tan Valley, Ariz., Daron Buol of Marion and Danica (Scott) O'Brien of Marion; grandchildren, Brandonn (Katie), Maquoi, Keegan, Mason, Isabella, Adicyn, Elizabeth, Nichole, Samuel, Jacob and Raymond; great-grandson, Bryson; two brothers, Bernard (Evelyn) Buol of Centerton, Ark., and James (Evelyn) Buol of West Branch; one sister, Cynthia (Douglas) Nus of Arlington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Loren (Grace) Buol; grandson, Joshua; and 12 angel grandbabies.
Jerry was born Aug. 17, 1947, in Monticello, the son of Raymond "Jack" and Mildred "Millie" (Doden) Buol. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1965. Jerry went on to graduate from St. Luke's Hospital LPN Nursing Program in 1979. On Aug. 1, 1975, he married Deborah Rutenbeck at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1967 until 1987. Jerry worked for Darrah's Towing Service, was a Linn County Deputy Sherriff assigned as a paramedic with Rescue 57, a paramedic with Area Ambulance Service and a firefighter with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
Jerry enjoyed being outdoors, especially deer hunting, and was a member of the NRA. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed Earnhardt racing. Jerry loved football, and cheered for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers.
Jerry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Jerry's memory.
If you are planning to attend the burial in Rock Island on Monday, please contact Jerry's family for further information. The family will provide a luncheon at Darrell's Family Restaurant in Monticello following the graveside service.
