Jerry Allan Boubin, born on May 29, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024, at Lexington Estates in Independence, IA. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jerry graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School in 1959 and attended Coe College, where he played football. On September 28, 1960, he married the love of his life, Bonita Kay (Neprash) Boubin.
Together, they founded Boubin Tire and Automotive in Independence in 1971, expanding to Manchester, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Coralville. Jerry was involved in off-road dirt track racing. He started as the tire distributor for American Racer tires in the mid-1970s. He and Bonnie went on to develop their own line of racing wheels manufactured in Independence called Real Racing Wheels in 1993.
Jerry enjoyed fishing and hunting, often taking family trips to Canada. He was actively involved in his community in his early years, participating in the Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, Chamber of Commerce, and the Airport Commission.
Jerry is survived by his children: Deb (Dan) Hosch, Angie (Ken) Boubin, and Mike (Diana) Boubin; eight grandchildren: Troy (Cara) Boubin, Jodi (Jon) Erickson, James Boubin, Lauren (Michael) Lorenzen, Trent Versluis, Paige (Ryan) Dunkel, Max Boubin, and George Boubin; and twelve great-grandchildren: Olivia Boubin, Jack Boubin, Brennan Erickson, Bonnie Erickson, Ben Erickson, Jase Lorenzen, Hazel Lorenzen, Averi Kay Lorenzen, Addison Dunkel, Brady Dunkel, Colin Dunkel, and Quinn Dunkel. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Rabik, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Mary (Klumpar) Boubin, his wife Bonita, his son Jerry Boubin Jr., his brother Don Boubin, his sister-in-law Betty Boubin, and his brother-in-law Jerry Rabik.
Jerry's legacy of love, hard work, and community spirit will be cherished by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church In Independence, IA. The burial will be held at St. John’s Cemetery in Independence, IA. Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 7 PM on Friday, December 13, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA. A Wake service will be held at 7 PM on Friday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cedar Valley Hospice and St. John’s Catholic Church.
