Jerry Alan Bolton, 73, of Jesup, Iowa, passed away after a 10-month battle with T-cell lymphoma on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at his home with his wife by his side. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, Iowa.
Jerry was born on Oct. 17, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Junior and Louise (Rabik) Bolton. He was a graduate of Central City High School in Central City, Iowa, and Iowa State University, majoring in Agricultural Education, obtaining his teaching degree. Using his degree, he taught high school agriculture, then took management positions with Farm Service and Durant Farm Supply before moving to Jesup, Iowa, in 1980. At that time, he became a post-secondary instructor and then the Department Chair of Agriculture at Hawkeye Institute of Technology. In 1996, Jerry took a new job as the Dean of Agriculture of Kirkwood Community College from 1996 until retirement in 2008.
Jerry loved his family and had a love of cars including his drag racing cars and his corvette. He was involved with FFA, National Science Foundation, Silos and Smokestacks, plus agricultural judging competitions within his profession, various car clubs and travel throughout the United States.
On Aug. 20, 1969, Jerry was united in marriage to Susan Bickford, his high school sweetheart, in Prairieburg, Iowa. Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jerry is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 54 years, Susan of Jesup; children, Aaron (Dr. Nicole Mercer) Bolton of Sartell, Minn., Dr. Jody (Tim Smith) Bolton-Smith of Sartell, Minn., and Jeff (Morgan Pace) Bolton of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Madeline, Calvin, Matthew, Amanda, Sarah, Miya and Everett; mother, Louise Bolton; and brother, Duane (Bev) Bolton of Central City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Junior.
