Jerald Parker, 70, of Marion, died Oct. 11, 2017, at his home.
Jerald Lynn Parker was born Dec. 19, 1946, in Nebraska, the son of Thomas Lyle and Esther Mae (Woods) Parker. He was raised and baptized in the Church of Christ. He attended Central City Public Schools and graduated from Central City High School in 1965. Jerry served two years with the U.S. Army in Germany.
Jerry married Diane Mekalson on June 14, 1969, in Battle Lake, Minn. To this marriage, two children were born, Jara Lynn and Heath Alan. They later divorced. He had lived in Hiawatha, Marion and Toddville in Iowa, then in Champlin, Minn., and Brunswick, Maine, before returning to Iowa. He was employed in the circuit board industry with Rockwell International in Cedar Rapids, Advanced Circuits of Roseville, Minn., and Maine Electronics in Brunswick, Maine. He then returned to Iowa working maintenance with a local nursing home.
He enjoyed playing cards, going out to eat with friends and family, antiques, auctions, woodworking, and spending time with family and grandchildren.
He is survived by one daughter, Jara Lynn Parker of Henning, Minn.; one son, Heath Alan (Sasha) Parker of Battle Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren, Paige, Joey, Drae and Kai; sister, Isla (Dwayne) Powell of Central City; sister-in-law, Judy Parker of Central City; brother-in-law, Terry Tull of Center Point; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Esther Parker; brother, Tom Parker; and sister, Sandy Tull.
Memorial services: 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Center Point Road Church of Christ near Midway. Minister Albert Brown will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, and one hour before services Monday at the church. Military honors: American Legion Post 421, Central City. Interment: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City.
