Jennings, Wally
On April 5, 2012, Wally Jennings went home to heaven to join his Lord. His faith sustained him throughout this past year as he fought a courageous battle with cancer. A service in celebration of Wally's life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3775 Middle Rd., Bettendorf. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 26, Davenport. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 9, at the church.
Memorials may be given to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Assumption High School and DADS Club.
Wally Wayne Jennings was born Aug. 1, 1941, in Anamosa, Iowa to Herb and Ruth Jennings. Wally graduated from Tipton High School and served in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the beginning of the Vietnam War. He was selected to stand honor guard for President Eisenhower while in the service. After an honorable discharge, he married Sandra Sue Lehrman on Oct. 12, 1962.
He earned his CPA license and joined the firm of Shapley Accounting in 1964. He became partner, and later president of Reiser, Jennings and Co., PC, where he remained until his death.
One of his enjoyments was coaching softball, which he did for 22 years. He mentored many young people during that time, teaching lessons on and off the field. Recently, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play various sports. He was an enormous Hawkeye fan, attending Iowa football games for over 30 years.
He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where he held various council positions. Wally and Sandy later joined Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bettendorf. His memberships included the AICPA and Iowa Society of CPAs, the I-Club, the Quarterback Club and American Legion Post 26. He was a former member of the Jaycees, earning “Boss of the Year” in 1984.
His faith in Christ was an important part of his life and he shared his faith with those around him. He was always willing to listen to others and pray for them.
He leaves behind to mourn him his wife, Sandy; and three children, Kim (Joel) Peterson, Doug (Sue) Jennings and Jeff (Lindsey) Jennings. The loves of his life were his grandchildren, Erin, Rachel and Morgan Jennings, Maggie, Jack and Joey Peterson, Luke, Cole and Zöe Jennings and a grandson expected this summer. Also surviving are his sisters, Mary Lindemann and Ann Rebal, both of Iowa City, and Sharon Pease, Linda Jennings and Donna Terfler, all of Cedar Rapids; and brothers, Bob Jennings of Davenport and Dwight and Chuck Jennings, both of Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Ruth Jennings; his sister, Virginia; and two nephews.
