Jennings, Jack Edward
Jack Edward Jennings, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at St. Luke's Living Center East, surrounded by his loving family. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial to follow in Rogers Grove Cemetery, near Ely. Full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Jack was born July 27, 1935, in Ottumwa, the son of Donald George and Margaret (Gee) Jennings. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1952. He served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 on the USS Yorktown CV 48, earning a China Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He married Trucilla “Trudy” Hammock on Oct. 13, 1972, in Council Bluffs. Jack was an over the road truck driver and trainer for over 40 years. He was a school bus driver for over 12 years for College Community Schools. In 1983, he earned an Appliance Maintenance degree from Indian Hills Community College.
Jack is survived by his wife, Trudy; his children. Jack Jennings Jr. (Rick) of Austin, Texas, Kay Jennings of Cedar Rapids, Kevin (Deb) Jennings of Chicago, Clinton Jennings, Jess Jennings, Joy (Robert) Totten and Tina (Jeffrey) Sprague, all of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard (Paulette) Mitts of California, Mary (James) McGee of Albia, Tony (Valeda) Paulos-Stump of Albia, Rebecca (Marvin) Rust of Oskaloosa and James (Sheryl) Paulos of Des Moines; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John Richards and James Mitts; and his sister, Patricia Richards.
