Jennie "Cathie" Simmons, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at her home in rural Vinton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Miracles in Motion in Swisher.
Cathie was born Jan. 18, 1940, in Cedar Rapids to Jessie and Elza (Kalkofen) Curtis. In 1962, she graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, with a degree in music, and was awarded the Crawford Music Prize.
In her leisure, Cathie enjoyed playing the organ and piano, raising horses and her dogs.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Bright of Vinton; her son, Ted (Tane) Simmons of Cedar Rapids; her daughter, Diana Simmons of Marion; and her sister, Elaine Dice of Cedar Rapids.
Cathie was preceded in death by her parents and son, Christopher.
