Jelinek, Charles R.
Charles R. Jelinek, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial and military rites to follow in Czech National Cemetery.
Charles was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles R. and Mary Jelinek. He served in the United States Navy for three years during World War II as a minesweeper in the Pacific Ocean. Charles married Josephine Karlik on Jan. 13, 1941. Charles worked for Penick-Ford for over 33 years as a rigger, until his retirement in 1975. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys and traveling.
Charles is survived by his wife, Josephine; his children, Jerry (Barb) Jelinek of Cedar Rapids, Judy (Paul) Lillie of Cedar Rapids, and Diane (Arthur) Ashton of Phoenix, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, Jeremy, Amy, Angela, Brian and Sean.
He was preceded in death by parents; a brother, Frank; two sisters. Anna and Rose; and a son, David Jelinek.
