Jeffrey "Jeff" Clinton Hunter, 53, of Cedar Rapids, passed on to be with his Lord on the morning of Wednesday, July 5, 2017, after a nine-year battle with heart disease. Private services are planned for a later date.
He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents, Bill and Gladys Peterson and Ed and Gen Hunter; and his uncle, William Hunter.
Jeff is survived by his father, Bob Hunter; daughters, Nicole (Dan) Schaefer of Boone, and Jayme Hunter and Samantha Hunter, both of Cedar Rapids; granddaughters, Addison and Avery; brothers, Joe (Sheri) Hunter of Cedar Rapids and Billy (Kim) Hunter of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sister, Kathy (Charles) Schulte of Cedar Rapids.
Jeff was born on Feb. 26, 1964, in Cedar Rapids to Bob and Jeri Kay Hunter, and graduated from Jefferson High School. Jeff was in the restaurant business for over 30 years, moving from his first cafe on Fourth Street in Cedar Rapids to owning six fine dining restaurants in the Ames area. He won the Pork Cookout at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines twice, and finished in the top 16 in a national cooking contest in Washington, D.C.
Jeff enjoyed riding his bike, fishing and, especially, cooking for his family. He loved cheering on the Green Bay Packers and spending time with his beloved dogs. Jeff was a former city wrestling champion for Taft Junior High, and liked going to the wrestling meets at the University of Iowa. He will be missed by his friends and loving family.
