Jeffrey Bolsinger, 63, of Guttenberg, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at home with his family. He was born June 12, 1959, to Clark and Carla (Meier) Bolsinger.
Jeff graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1977, where his main focus was on playing baseball and doing play-by-play broadcasts of GHS basketball games on Channel 6. He graduated from Iowa Central Community College in 1979. Jeff initially worked as a DJ with KQCR ‘Q103’ in Cedar Rapids and later with Carlson Construction and Croell, Inc. as a Quality Control Inspector, retiring in 2022.
Jeff was a diehard Iowa Hawkeyes, Baltimore Orioles, L.A. Lakers (during the Kobe years) and Dallas Cowboys fan. It was a rare sighting indeed if he was found to be wearing anything but one of those jerseys! He loved his dogs—Nugent, Hawkeye, and Angus—and was a walking encyclopedia and excelled at all things trivia when it came to sports- or classic rock-related topics. Jeff loved looking out from his home on River Park Drive and was very proud of his hometown Guttenberg.
But more than anything he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Jeff did not shy away from opportunities to join local bands on stage to lend his vocal talent to the show. He enjoyed long conversations with friends old and new and quick mid-game texts—often enthusiastic about, but also lamenting, his team’s performance.
He is survived by his parents, Clark and Carla; siblings, Julie (Glenn) O’Rourke and Joel Bolsinger of Guttenberg, and John Bolsinger of Clermont, Iowa; nephews, Brent (Jillian) O’Rourke of Solon, Iowa, and Matthew (Jenna) O’Rourke of Lisbon, Iowa; great-niece, Quinn O’Rourke; great-nephews, Beckett O’Rourke and Eli O’Rourke; and aunt, Ivanelle Bolsinger.
Jeff was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Ethel (Schrunk) Bolsinger; maternal grandparents, Paul and Hattie (Heck) Meier; his first cousin and lifelong friend, Randy Bolsinger; and many aunts and uncles.
Jeff received compassionate care from the nurses and doctors at the University of Iowa’s Holden Cancer Center and St. Croix Hospice. He maintained an unwavering commitment to all treatments offered in the hope that if they didn’t benefit him, they would provide researchers with the knowledge to help others.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, Iowa. A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Stadium Bar & Grill in Guttenberg.
