JEFFREY ROBERT BARRY
Marion
Jeffrey Robert Barry, 53, of Marion, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, following a long illness. A private memorial service will be held later, with arrangements through Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Jeff was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on Feb. 12, 1963, to Dr. Robert J. Barry and Mary Ann Barry. He then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, and spent a short time on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation in Owyhee, Nev. The family returned to Iowa City, where he started school and then went on to Sioux City, Iowa. A final move brought him to Cedar Rapids.
At Washington High School, Jeff received varsity letters all three years in cross country, wrestling and track. He graduated in 1981.
Jeff pursued his interests in math and computer science at Luther College in Decorah, graduating in 1985.
Following a stint in the business world, Jeff returned to school at the University of Iowa, where he earned his M.B.A. in 1989.
Jeff married Kalah Mocker in 1993 in Illinois while employed at IBM. To this union, a beautiful little girl, Bridget Arianne Barry, was born. Jeff's obvious adoration of his daughter remained always.
Jeff's interests were widespread fishing, geocaching and playing cards with Bridget. He also loved hunting and shooting. He was talented in the kitchen, enjoyed playing board games, reading, giving advice and painting great Halloween faces. He especially loved Christmas Eve and was a thoughtful gift giver.
Survivors include his daughter, Bridget in Illinois; his parents; and his siblings, Julia Weston and Jonathan Barry and their respective spouses and children.
Special appreciation is extended to Jeff's friends, Mike and Harry, who afforded much companionship and transportation in Jeff's final days.
Jeff's family would like to thank the Cedar Rapids medical community and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the wonderful medical care and personal attention they gave Jeff during his long and difficult illness.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bridget Barry or St. Luke's Foundation for Physical Therapy, 855 A Ave. NE, Suite 105, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
We will love Jeff always and miss him very much. We pray that he is whole once again and is enjoying running and hiking.
