Jeannette Brendes, 99, of Clarence, passed away Monday July 11, 2022, at Clarence Senior Living. Jeannette was born Aug. 22, 1922, in rural Lowden to Dietrich and Meta Schlueter Meyer. She married Ralph Brendes on Jan. 30, 1944, in Gainesville, Texas. He passed away on Aug, 1, 1986.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Robert) Young of Cedar Rapids; sons, James (Janet) of Martelle and Galen (Sherry) of Marion; daughter in-law, Lori Brendes of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother, Harlan (Shirley) Meyer of Stanwood; sister, Betty Ann Miller of Tipton; and sister-in-law, Erna Brendes of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert; granddaughter, Melissa Brendes; brothers, Dwain and Richard Meyer (and his wife Joan); and brothers in-law, John Miller and Merle Brendes.
Jeannette was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and was an avid Cubs fan. She was a charter member of the Women’s Bowling League and was a spelling bee champion in her earlier years. Jeannette was a very charming and positive lady who treasured every member of her family and kept them close to her heart, but she also was a little ornery! She was nominated and received the Quality Program Award for Volunteer of the Year in 2016 that she was very proud of. Jeannette read her bible every day and read it cover to cover numerous times.
Chapman Funeral Home has Jeannette and her family in their care. Memories and condolences may be left at www.chapmanfh.com.
