Jeanne Marilyn Rathje, 88, from Robins, Iowa passed away December 23, 2023.
Jeanne was born on January 12, 1935 near Atkins, Iowa to Charles and Ruth (Nerison) Simmer. She graduated from Atkins High School in 1952. She married Henry “Hank” Charles Rathje Jr. on May 24, 1953 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, Iowa. Henry passed away on October 23, 2009.
Surviving are two daughters, Joni (Gary) Puckett, Columbus, Georgia, Julie (Larry) Steinauer, Cedar Rapids, and son Jerry (Kay) Rathje, Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren: Jeni Brown, Mary Nemer, Heather (Ford) Snodgrass, Andrea Rathje, Erin Rathje, Jonathon (Amanda) Puckett, Derek Steinauer, Sydney Steinauer; great-grandchildren: Jocelyn & JJ Brown and Fordy & Lane Snodgrass; brother-in-law, Moe Bright of Atkins; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Joyce Barrett, Pauline McKechnie, and Joanne Bright; great-granddaughter Jillian Brown; grandson-in-law Jonathan Brown; and her in-laws and their spouses.
Jeanne and Hank enjoyed many years of boating with their friends in their younger years, including their family and friends at their cabin on Lake Delhi, many family vacations, and attending Iowa Hawkeye sporting events and several bowl games with their special friends Barb and Ken DeKlotz. Upon retirement they enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and wintering in Sarasota, Florida.
The family would like to thank The Villages at Marion for the love and special care they provided.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on December 28, 2023, at the Cedar Memorial, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Private funeral services and interment will be held in Cedar Memorial Park & Cemetery (Garden of the Cross).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
